The Emirati security services kidnapped three Emirati women on February 15, 2015 after summoning them at 4 pm for questioning at a station in Abu Dhabi. The names of these women are Asma Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, Mariam Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, and Alyazia Khalifa Al-Suwaidi Since being summoned at 4 pm, the women have not had any contact with their families and their place of detention remains unknown.
It is worth noting that these three women are sisters of UAE 94 defendant Issa Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, who was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, in a flawed trial riddled with serious legal violations. These women also all hold graduate degrees.
Such arbitrary arrests, which are carried out for no reason and in violation with Emirati traditions and law, are done in the context of violations committed against the families of prisoners in order to pressure prisoners and their families to stop demanding their legal rights or talking about the violations committed against them.
Therefore, the Emirates Centre for Human Rights calls on the Emirati government to immediately release these women and cease all violations committed against the families of prisoners.
