Naser Bin Ghaith case postponed for verdict on the 29 March
Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal will issue its final verdict regarding the prominent Emirati academic and human rights defender Nasser Bin Ghaith's case on March 29.
UAE authorities have subjected Dr. bin Ghaith to a lengthy trial over charges that violate his right to free expression and association.
Emirati government has deprived Dr. bin Ghaith of urgent medical treatment and has held him in conditions that fail to meet international standards for the treatment of prisoners. ECHR strongly condemns the ongoing arbitrary detention and ill treatment of Dr. bin Ghaith and calls for his immediate release.
Bin Ghaith faces several charges stemming from his peaceful criticism on Twitter of Egyptian and Emirati authorities, which could lead to decades in prison. Authorities also accuse him of violating the country’s repressive counterterrorism law by collaborating with local groups the authorities have classified as terrorist.
