AOHR: UAE crimes against Yemenis are worsening day by day, threatening the social fabric and civil peace.
The Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) has issued a press release expressing its concern regarding the escalation of crimes perpetrated by the UAE in places under its control in Yemen. These crimes are threatening the social fabric and civil peace in the country.
AOHR UK added that the UAE is present in South Yemen with military and security forces supporting militias, and supervising secret prisons. It practices torture and enforced disappearance, and systematically exploits the wealth of Yemen in practices that mimic activities of gangs rather than a state. Its activities go beyond that of an occupier or a colonial entity.
AOHR UK has shown that the UAE no longer hides its agendas in Yemen and has declared war on anyone who does not conform to its schemes. It began a campaign of arbitrary arrests, recently involving individuals and leaders of the Yemeni reformist group, al-Islah.
AOHR UK confirmed that professional and community figures were arrested from their homes during the night after their homes were stormed and ransacked.
The organisation called upon the international community to heed the need to curb the practices of the UAE in Yemen as it poses a threat to stability in the region, and against all efforts to stop the all-encompassing war in Yemen. AOHR UK has also called upon the UN Secretary-General to the need to act to release all detainees and to shut all the prisons run by the UAE and its militias in Yemen.
